A Butterfly Release Will Be a ‘Must Have’ After Viewing This Video

Make your special day even more special with a butterfly release. Releasing butterflies is fast becoming a trend.

Of course getting it all on video will allow you to relive your special ceremony over and over. Watch this short clip of a butterfly release at a destination wedding in Jamaica. You won’t need a romantic destination to make your special day memorable. Even a simple backyard wedding will be transformed into a magical day.

According to Native American legend when a butterfly is caught and a wish is whispered to it upon release your wish will be granted by the Great Spirit.

There are several butterfly farms that can supply you these exquisite creatures. Popular varieties include the Monarch butterfly, Painted Lady Butterflies and the Swallowtail. These species are friendly and inquisitive and will delight your guests as they flit about after the initial release.

They can come in specially designed boxes. Small, medium and large containing one to four dozen butterflies respectively. When the tops are unfastened the butterflies are simultaneously released. Another style is a release cage. This enclosure can hold 96 butterflies which can be quickly freed by separating the ribbons at the top. Especially elegant is a large basket with white netting with lace appliques all over. These baskets can hold four to eight dozen beautiful butterflies.

The butterflies can be chilled 15 to 20 minutes before the service. They can then be positioned on the bride’s dress or bouquet and also on the attendant’s bouquets for amazing photographs. You must be ready to snap those pics as the butterflies will quickly warm and fly away.

Make your wedding truly memorable with a butterfly release! It will leave guests with a lasting memory of an amazing butterfly wedding

Butterfly Kits

Posted by admin on Jun 18, 2010 under butterfly kits

Butterfly kits are fun and educational. The kits make an excellent science project for homeschoolers. A friend of mine supplies well over 100 public schools with kits. Live butterfly kits make great gifts as well. They can be a recurring gift year after year to provide hours of fascination. For around $25 the kits make a great battery free gift for kids between the ages of 4 and 12. In addition it’s a great way to get butterflies into your garden. You can watch them transition through their various stages and then have your own butterfly release.

All the actual kit is, is a mesh zippered cage and a plastic cup filled with Painted Lady caterpillars. A good kit should include at least five caterpillars and preferably as many as ten. Also included is enough food to keep the caterpillars healthy until they spin their way into a chrysalis.

The container or habitat should be made of mesh netting with at least one zipper door. You need to be able to access the caterpillars to feed them and to finally release the. Ideally the habitat should be both free-standing and able to be hung.

Cages can be reused over and over and simply re-order the caterpillars each year. Just hatched butterflies can be kept inside the cage for a good twenty-four hours. This is a perfect time to observe them. Just leave them in their cup and watch the caterpillars form their chrysalises. When they start to hang from the top in a ‘J’ shape you know they are about to make a chrysalis. Then you transfer them to the cage by removing the paper and safety-pinning the discs to the inside of the mesh.

If your timing is right, you can watch the butterflies emerge from the chrysalises after about a week.

Finally hold your butterfly release! Take them out into your garden and place the cage next to a brightly coloured plant and let the butterflies out into their new home. You can even make a special butterfly garden in a corner of you yard to release them in and hopefully attract some wild ones as well.

I’m sure butterfly kits will be added to your list of must purchase year after year.

Butterfly Release

Posted by admin on Jun 3, 2010 under butterfly release

Wow I just learned about butterfly release!  I’ve always loved butterflies. Years ago I took my son to  the Crystal Palace in Victoria, BC. where there were 1000s of butterflies. It was incredible. You could feed them and they would land on you. We see the occasional painted lady butterfly in our garden but I had no idea that you can release them as part of a school project or plan them as part of a butterfly wedding theme.

I’m going to research all I can about this fascinating topic! Who knows, I may even buy a butterfly kit and have a butterfly release of my own. I hope you will enjoy this journey with me.
